Il corso “Oak Park and River Forest High School Band” è composto da studenti selezionati da tre dei suoi cinque ensemble curriculari: la Symphonic Band, la Wind Symphony e il Wind Ensemble. Ogni ensemble è composto in genere da 40-55 studenti e si riunisce ogni giorno per 50 minuti. Questi gruppi si concentrano sullo studio e l'esecuzione di un repertorio che rappresenta un'ampia gamma di stili musicali e periodi storici, con una forte enfasi sullo sviluppo delle competenze fondamentali di esecuzione.
Gli ensemble presentano quattro concerti all’anno all'interno della Scuola.
Studenti selezionati della Wind Symphony e del Wind Ensemble partecipano anche al programma orchestrale curriculare, condividendo un percorso di lezioni. Questi studenti si uniscono ai musicisti d'archi per formare un'orchestra al completo composta da archi, fiati e percussioni. Durante le prove orchestrali gli studenti che non fanno parte dell'orchestra si dedicano allo studio in piccoli gruppi, collaborando sotto la guida di un referente studentesco per preparare musica da camera per le esibizioni d’insieme.

Il Wind Ensemble è la banda di più alto livello del corso, con un repertorio avanzato. Rappresenta il corso di perfezionamento per banda presso l'OPRF. Gli studenti di tutti gli ensemble sono fortemente incoraggiati a seguire lezioni private settimanali che supportano la crescita musicale e aumentano le possibilità di essere selezionati in prestigiosi ensemble statali. Ogni anno circa 30 studenti del corso di banda vengono premiati per i loro successi musicali e selezionati per partecipare all'Illinois Music Educators Association All-District Music Festival, che si tiene annualmente in autunno. Tra questi, vengono scelti una decina di studenti per esibirsi negli ensemble statali di più alto livello: i corsi All-State Band, Orchestra e Jazz.

The Oak Park and River Forest High School Band program is comprised of selected students from three of its five curricular ensembles including the Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, and Wind Ensemble. Each ensemble typically includes 40–55 students and meets daily for 50 minutes. These groups focus on the study and performance of repertoire representing a wide range of musical styles and historical periods, with a strong emphasis on the development of fundamental performance skills.

The ensembles present four formal in-school concerts each year. Selected students from the Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble also participate in the curricular orchestra program, which meets during a shared class period. These students combine with string players to form a Full Orchestra consisting of strings, winds, and percussion. During full orchestral rehearsals, students not participating in the orchestra engage in small ensemble work, collaborating under the guidance of a student leader to prepare chamber music for community performances.

The Wind Ensemble serves as the program’s top-performing band, with students expected to perform advanced repertoire at a very high level. This is our capstone course for band at OPRF. Students in all ensembles are strongly encouraged to pursue weekly private instruction, which supports musical growth and increases opportunities for selection into prestigious state-level ensembles. Each year, approximately 30 students from the band program are recognized for their musical achievements and selected to participate in the Illinois Music Educators Association All-District Music Festival, held annually in the fall. Of those students, approximately 7–10 are chosen to perform in the state’s highest-level ensembles: the All-State Band, Orchestra, and Jazz programs.
